        I sat back and tried to figure out the best calculations to convert
"The Real World"(RW) to "Doom" and "DOOM ]["(DM).

|--------------------------------|

You may want to take a look at Metrics.txt if you find this confusing
or you feel that my calculations are wrong. :)

If a 5ft 6in person is 18in wide, and the Doom player is 32 Du wide -W
32 Du/ 18in = 16 Du/ 9in = 1.77777777778 Du/ 1in
1ft 6in (RW Human) = 32 Du (DM Player)
1ft = 21.3333333333 Du ...! different from Metrics.txt (16 Du = 1ft) !...

I know, I have had a little to much time on my hands. :)

IMPORTANT NOTE: I also wrote a program for the TI-85 Graphic Calculator.
                The ascii version can be found, in R2DTI85.ZIP, as
                R2DTI.TXT on any major FTP site.

These next sections work with most but not all buildings.

................................DOORS........................................
Most household doors are around 6ft 6in-7ft tall, 2ft 6in wide, and 1ft 6in
thick.

72 Du / 7 ft = 10.2857142857 Du/ft                                        -H
6ft 6in for a door doesn't look good at 68 Du.
Besides the Doom Player along with the trooper, etc.. are 56 Du high.
This makes the Doom player a reasonable size of 5ft 6in RW.
So use the 72 du door.

Most DM Door thicknesses are usually 4-16 Du. -D
1.5in = 4 Du

................................ROOMS........................................
My house has 9 ft 6in high rooms. This converts to roughly be 98 Du. -H
8-8ft 6in is the typical height of rooms.  8ft = 82Du or 8ft 6in = 88Du
You may want to try these to see if you like them.
Otherwise, 128 Du is standard DM room size. Plus you won't have to mess
with texture allignment.

Seperation between floors is approx. 1ft. -H
In this case 1ft should be rounded to 10 Du.

................................WALLS........................................
5.5-6in is the estamated thickness of the walls in my house. -W
5.5in = 10 Du
6in = 12 Du

Caution seperate long walls with nodes. The wall can cause a glitch if it -W
is too long. Place a node every 1024 Du at the most.

...............................WINDOWS.......................................
In my house I have 4ft 6in windows.                                       -H
4ft 6in = 46 Du
The window of the room should be 25 Du more than the rooms floor height,
unless you really want to tag every window two sided impassable
The top of the window should be 47 Du above the base of the window
or 72 Du from the rooms floor.

These windows are also each 2ft 6in wide. -W
2ft 6in = 53(54) Du

(I have been rounding odd numbers up to an even number)

Interesting widows can be found in the "inner_o.wad" by Brian Martin.
In this level he has windows that truly crack when shot with
non-projectile weapons. Many other wicked graphics make this level classic.

................................Steps........................................
I have found that many steps use this standard.

1ft = 10 Du  (Easier than using 10.2857142857 Du)                         -H
3ft 8in = 78 Du                                                           -W
10in = 18 Du                                                              -D

.............................Miscellaneous...................................

Counter Top:          3ft = 30 Du                                         -H
Toilet:           1ft 4in = 14 Du (SEAT)                                  -H
                  1ft 2in = 24 Du                                         -W
                  1ft 7in = 34 Du                                         -D
                  2ft 6in = 26 Du (TANK)                                  -H
                  1ft 8in = 36 Du                                         -W
                      8in = 14 Du                                         -D
Sink:             2ft 6in = 26 Du                                         -H
                  1ft 8in = 36 Du                                         -W
                  1ft 6in = 32 Du                                         -D
