The Target Computer Stops Responding when Connecting to IBM's DCAF

Description:
A Deskpro 4000 MMX computer may stop responding (lockup or hang) when trying to connect
to another computer using IBM's Distributed Console Access Facility (DCAF).
| DCAF The IBM Distributed Console Access
Facility (DCAF) product is a strategic tool for monitoring and/or controlling the display
and keyboard/mouse input of remote personal computer workstations.
DCAF is part of the SystemView family, providing systems and network management
solutions. IBM DCAF is a powerful tool for systems and network management, administration,
and application Help Desk assistance, involving personal computer workstations distributed
across Systems Network Architecture (SNA), TCP/IP, Novell IPX/SPX, and NetBIOS networks,
and on SNA-connected NetBIOS LANs.
IBM DCAF provides the above functions for remote workstations running the following
personal computer operating systems:
- IBM OS/2
- IBM PC-DOS and Microsoft DOS
- Microsoft Windows
- Microsoft Windows for Workgroups

Resolution:
Compaq has written a SoftPaq that corrects system lockups with DCAF and
resolves the issue. Download the SoftPaq and read the instructions carefully before
proceeding.
"S3 ViRGE/GX Video for OS/2 for Deskpro 4000 MMX," Version 1.03, Revision A
(or later) is available on Compaq On-line (SoftPaq Number 5086). Use the following links

Scope:
Deskpro 4000 MMX computers operating in an OS/2 environment with an S3 ViRGE video
controller.

driver, go to the OS/2 System, click on System Setup and then Selective Install. Verify
