Bueno, mi historia con historia con el Amstrad se remonta al año 1995. En aquellos años cursaba 8º de EGB, y en mi clase había varios compañeros que tenían un Specy 48K. Cuando nos reuníamos en sus casa, alucinábamos con aquella maquina pequeña, con teclas de gomas, que hacia que se movieran unos muñecos en cuatro colores. Era alucinante. Hasta que un buen dia, otro compañero nos invito a su casa, y LE vimos, un 464 con monitor en color, increíble, era, simplemente alucinante. Se acercaba las navidades, y yo sin saberlo, mis padres tramaban mi regalo de Navidad. Recuerdo, aquella tarde, estuvimos en el Corte Ingles, viendo los ordenadores, mis ojos se iban detrás del 464, era el sueño de todo niño.
Llegamos a casa, y mi padre se la ingenio, para que yo me retrasase y llegara diez minutos mas tarde que ellos. Al llegar a casa, mi padre me pidió el favor que le trajera un libro de la salita, y cuando entre, allí estaba, no me lo podía creer, era un 472 con monitor en color. Me quede mirándolo, no me lo creía, lo acaricie, para ver si era de verdad, y si lo era, era mio, abrí el regalo de ocho juegos y mis ojos se fueron para el Oh Mummy. Leí las instrucciones y me dispuse a cargar el juego, aun recuerdo emocionado el PRESS PLAY AND ANY KEY y luego Loading BLOCK 1, y el pipipi piiiiiiiiiiiii pi. Cargado el primer bloque, y luego el segundo y continuación AMSOFT y el nombre del juego. Y allí llego, con su musiquita, y comencé a jugar. Aquello era increíble, colores, unos tráficos impresionantes, una movilidad increíble. Después Plaga Galáctica, etc...
Pasada la euforia de los juegos, pase a realizar mis primeros pinitos en BASIC y algo conseguiríamos, pero me aburría, lo mio era matar marcianos, y como no, por mi cumple, un radio-cassette de doble pletina y a copiar a diestro y siniestro. Cintas de 90 minutos repletas de juegos, RENEGADE, ABUL SIMBEL, GAME OVER, SIR FRED, LA ABADIA DEL CRIMEN (el mejor juego de la historia de la informática), la lista seria interminable, y claro, la atentación era grande, y algún que otro juego se vendió por ahí, lo cual servía para comprar juegos originales, las ultimas novedades.
Fue, en el año 1987, cuando vi realmente la capacidad que tenia mi ordenador. Por error, y arrepentido estoy, lo cambie por un 464, que es el que actualmente tengo. Bueno, como decía, fue en 1987 cuando compre una unidad de disco externa de 3". Eso era vida, se acabo mover para arriba y para abajo el tornillo, se acabo meter una peseta debajo de la cinta. Un disco y el discology y no había juego o programa que se resistiera. Y bueno, la rapidez, aquello era cosa de magia, y sin errores. Los horizontes se ampliaban, código maquina, base de datos, cobol, logo. Pero seguía limitado, los 64K no daban mas de si, y compre un 6128 de segunda mano, con su monitor en color, y ahora si, ya estaba completo. Podías hacer casi de todo.
Mas tarde, compre dos 6128 mas, uno de ellos la versión inglesa con CRTC 0, una gozada. Bueno, pues poco mas que contar, bueno podría contar mas, pero no es plan de aburrir a nadie.
Un saludo a todos los AMSTRAD ADICTOS en particular, y al mundo de los 8 bits en general. Que antes si frutábamos mas con los juegos, bueno, aunque la verdad, es que hoy también seguimos disfrutando, verdad?

Had brand new Amstrad box delivered and fitetd friday(20/11) and guess what, it came with the old EPG and hasn't updated since being switched on. If update is out there why not supply it updated despairWhilst configuring with TV (Samsung 6000 series) I noted that when Sky selected on HDMI channel it came up with 50Hz.I have queried sky and they tell me their HD Boxes are indeed only 50Hz so you will only get any 100Hz benefit from consoles & DVD playes capable of out put of 100Hz Swizz all round.Dissapointed Dave

I'm not sure that you really were stuipd. Were you earning aliving through writing fiction back then? If not, then lackof inspiration might well be a good reason not to commit towriting fiction. It's easy for the person of today tocriticise the person of the past, but not necessarilyuseful.Suppose the younger, less experienced Matt had committedhimself to writing two books. Possible outcomes include (a)that you would write two uninspired sequels each of whichwould sell less well than the previous and the publisherwould ask you for no more. And (b), you manage to writesomething for the second volume that, while uninspired,keeps things going well enough that people want to readvolume three, and volume three more or less manages to keepthat up, but you pull off a good ending. That would fulfilthe peak/end requirement of reader experience, so people(including the publishers) would want to see more books byMr Kelland. Then you have to churn them out one per annumand you either turn into a complete cynic or realise after awhile that your life's work has been a pile of dross.OK, that last bit is maybe an exaggeration. A well crafteduninspired novel does serve a useful purpose, but it's notobvious that the Matt back then (who lacked your currentlevel of experience) could produce a well crafted work inthe absence of inspiration. So perhaps you did the world aservice by sparing us yet another shoddily written 1980'sfantasy trilogy? Whereas if you do it now, even if you don'tfind the inspiration, we can be sure it will at least bewell crafted. And who knows?
